What is a lava lamp?

The age old question still remains, "what is a lava lamp?".
Well im sure glad you asked. The lava lamp is a transparent
electrical lamp that contains a thick liquid with brightly
colored wax. The fun of the lava lamp comes when the wax is
melted. This causes the brightly colored lamp to float up and
down within the lamp.

History of the lamp

The lava lamp was inventend in 1963 by the British accountant Edward
Craven Walker. Edward was the owner of the lighting company Mathmos.
Edward got the idea after watching an egg timer filled with diffrent liquids
float around.In england Edward named the lamp the "Astro" or the "Astro lamp"
1965, Adolph Wertheimer and Hy Spector saw the lamp on a german trade show and
the bought the rights. The two men started their own company based in chicago
and renamed the lamp as we know it today as the lava lamp

How to make your own Homemade lava lamp

Steps
1 Rinse out a large soda or water bottle
2 Add oil, water, and food coloring to the bottle.
3 Add salt or an Alka-Seltzer tablet to the water.
4 Put the cap on and tip the bottle back and forth (optional).
5 Turn off the lights and put a light sorce under the bottle.
6 Enjoy :)
